Senior Building Performance Engineer

Website BPC Engineers

Building Performance Consulting

We are hiring. This one is significant as we look to grow a senior leadership team.

At BPC Engineers, we don’t see building performance modelling as a reporting exercise. We see it as a decision-making tool, one that shapes real outcomes in energy, carbon, and how buildings actually operate.

We are working on complex, high-value projects across sectors like data centres / pharma / manufacturing / commercial, where performance isn’t optional, it’s critical.

This  role is not about producing models, ticking boxes and moving on. It is a front-line technical position where your analysis directly influences design, strategy, and real world performance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading advanced building performance modelling across a wide range of project types
  • Using simulation as a design and analysis tool, not just a compliance tool
  • Working closely with clients, design teams, and engineers to shape outcomes
  • Delivering analysis across a wide variety of scopes:
    • Advanced Energy modelling (LEED PRM, CIBSE TM54, digital twins)
    • Overheating and thermal comfort assessments
    • Part L / BER compliance
    • Energy audits and performance studies
    • Whole-life carbon analysis
  • Translating complex technical results into clear, actionable insights
  • Taking ownership of projects and driving technical quality

What we’re really looking for

We are looking for someone who is more than proficient. We want a technical lead who can take ownership of complex projects and develop best-in-class solutions and outcomes for our clients. We want someone with a deep grounding in building physics and HVAC systems, who understands not just how to build a model but what the model is telling them, and what to do about it.

You might come from:

  • Building performance engineering
  • Mechanical / building services design
  • Sustainability consultancy

But you will have:

  • Extensive experience in building energy modelling (this is essential)
  • Strong capability in tools like DesignBuilder / EnergyPlus / IES VE
  • A solid understanding of HVAC systems and building behaviour
  • The ability to interpret design information and challenge it where needed
  • Confidence communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

You don’t need to have every answer in every room, but you do need the mindset and technical ability to figure it out.

Why this role is different

At BPC Engineers:

  • Modelling is core to what we do, not an add-on
  • You will work across multiple sectors and project types, not just repeat work
  • You will be trusted with real responsibility early
  • Your work will directly influence design decisions, not just reports

We are a growing consultancy with a clear focus – to make building performance central to how buildings are designed and operated.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary
  • 23–25 days annual leave (increasing with service)
  • Contributory Pension
  • Flexible & hybrid working options
  • Strong support for CPD and chartership
  • Exposure to a wide variety of projects and technical challenges
  • A collaborative, technically focused team environment
