Building Performance Analysis

Overview

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Non-Domestic BER Assessor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the energy performance of non-domestic buildings, providing Building Energy Ratings (BERs) and Part L assessments in compliance with Irish building regulations. Excellent written and verbal communication of technical issues to technical and non-technical professionals will be key to success in the role.

Candidates should be resident in Ireland, preferably in Dublin, but remote/hybrid working within Leinster can be accommodated.

Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct Building Energy Rating (BER) and Part L compliance assessments of non-domestic buildings in accordance with the Non-Domestic Energy Assessment Procedure (NEAP).
  • Collate and review building data based on design documents and site surveys, including information about building fabrics/constructions, heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting systems.
  • Use DesignBuilder as an interface to SBEMie to complete BER and Part L assessments.
  • Provide recommendations for improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
  • Collect and analyse data related to building energy performance.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation for clients.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Stay updated on changes to BER and Part L regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and comprehensive assessments, to explain assessment results, and provide guidance on improving energy efficiency.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to maintain certification and enhance skills.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (building services, mechanical, or similar)
  • Qualified SEAI Non-Domestic BER Assessor. (Previously qualified assessors where qualification may have lapsed will also be considered.)
  • Strong understanding of the Non-Domestic Energy Assessment Procedure (NEAP) for BER and Part L compliance assessments.
  • Familiarity with Part L Building regulations and BRIRL documents.
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant software interface for SBEM, e.g. DesignBuilder or IES VE.
  • Ability to understand and interpret design drawings and construction documents, including M&E system designs, layouts, schematics, specifications, sequence of operation documents and controls schematics.
  • Proficient in site-surveys for BER assessments: identifying HVAC equipment, lighting and gathering required evidence such as nameplate data.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, managing multiple projects.
Desirable skills and experience:
  • Proficiency in DesignBuilder
  • Experience in more advanced energy modelling, e.g. for LEED, CIBSE TM54, DfP
  • Domestic and Non-Domestic BER Assessor (SEAI)
  • Qualification in Energy Management, e.g. CEM or CMVP.
  • Experience with energy audits/assessments (e.g. S.I 426)
  • On-site experience commissioning or testing HVAC systems
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS)
